Google Vids is Google’s AI-powered video creation studio, and it is generally available to all Google Workspace customers. While you can create short videos in Google Workspace apps like Google Slides, and with the Gemini app (gemini.google.com), Google Vids offers more of the traditional tools you’ll find in a video creation app. You can access it at vids.google.com.
Recently, Google has introduced better language support, increased features for AI avatars, and increased the video lengths in Google Vids.
Limits Increased from 10 to 30 Minutes
Google Vids is expanding its video duration limits, providing people with significantly more flexibility for creating comprehensive video content within Google Workspace. The maximum length for Vids projects and for video or audio clips recorded directly in the Vids studio has been tripled from 10 minutes to 30 minutes. This change makes it easier to create content like detailed training sessions or lengthy project summaries.
In addition to project and recording increases, people can import larger media clips, with a new maximum duration of up to 95 minutes (or 4 GB in file size). While clips must be edited down to 30 minutes or less to unlock full editing capabilities, this higher import limit simplifies the workflow for admins and end-people, especially when bringing in pre-recorded content for clipping and highlighting.
AI Avatar Features Expanded
Google Vids is expanding its AI avatar features by introducing new 2D and 3D cartoon-styled avatars. These new options complement the existing photorealistic avatars by offering expressive, stylized features, creating a more approachable tone, and providing a universally engaging experience.
The new styles are particularly useful for increasing engagement in educational settings, such as keeping students focused on assignments or for lightening the tone of any video.
Language Support Increased for AI Avatars and Voiceovers
Google Vids is expanding language support for its AI-powered features, making its high-quality speakers and narration tools more accessible. AI avatars are now available in seven additional languages: Spanish, Portuguese, French, German, Italian, Korean, and Japanese. This update allows people to quickly and cost-effectively create content like pitches for global clients or training for an international workforce in their native language.
The AI Voiceovers feature has also been updated to support the same new languages. This allows people to generate realistic narration for their videos by simply typing a script, choosing a preset, and having the feature return a high-quality voiceover. This streamlines the video creation process and broadens the ability for people to create localized video content for international audiences.
For real-world use cases, consider working with large videos; have you ever tried uploading a longer video to an online tool so you can work with it? Everyone knows that struggle, and Google has just solved the problem. Additionally, specialized AI Avatar video creation solutions have a bit of an uncanny valley problem, with unrealistic-looking avatars. Google Vids avatars are very natural, and where you feel they aren’t you can now replace them with cartoons without having to start the whole creation process over again.
All of these features are available to most Google Workspace customers. If you are looking at making the switch, consider how much AI juice your current productivity suite has, and if it comes with a video production suite like Google Vids.
